AIRSOURCE HEATPUMPS - SEPERATING FACT FROM FICTION PART 1

AS INDUSTRY RECOGNISED EXPERTS in the installation and repair of Airsource Heatpumps (ASHP), we are often asked a variety of questions regarding the suitability, cost and efficiency of ASHP.  There are many concerns surrounding ASHP largely due to mis information surrounding the subject of ASHP and renewable energy technology in general.  In the first part of our series of myth busting blogs we hope to dispel many of this incorrect information......

 

HOW DOES AN AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP WORK?

 

An ASHP harnesses the natural warmth in the ambient air to initiate the refrigeration cycle with the process of releasing energy as the refrigerant transforms from a low pressure, low temperature liquid to high pressure, high temperature vapour.  Essentially the opposite to how a refrigerator operates

 

WHAT SIZE OF AIR SOURCE HEATPUMP WOULD I NEED?

 

That very much depends on many factors and why a full heatless calculation should be performed prior to installation.  The size and age of a property, insulation levels and choice of heat emitters will have a huge impact on this.

 

HOW DOES AN AIR SOURCE HEATPUMP WORK IN THE WINTER?

 

The refrigerant gas that is used in most ASHP has a boiling point of around -40 degrees C therefore can work to exceptionally low ambient external temperatures.  ASHP have been used in Scandanavia for over 30 years... in fact in now their preferred choice!
