AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS - SEPARATING FACT FROM FICTION!

AS EXPERTS IN THE RENEWABLE ENERGY INDUSTRY we are often asked to consult on a variety of projects for clients from Architects and Builders, to Home Owners and Housing Associations.  Regardless of the client, similar questions are asked time and time again! This blog is of a season of blogs which have been written to help dispel inaccurate assumptions regarding ASHP and answer some frequently asked questions!

HOW DOES AN AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMP WORK?

An ASHP harnesses the natural warmth in the ambient air to initiate the refrigeration cycle with the process of releasing energy as the refrigerant transforms from a low pressure low temperature liquid to high pressure high temperature vapour.  The opposite to how a refrigerator operates

WHAT SIZE OF AIR SOURCE HEATPUMP WOULD I NEED?

That very much depends on many factors and why a full heatless calculation should be performed prior to installation.  Size of a property, insulation levels, age of property and choice of heat emitters will have a huge impact

HOW NOISY IS AN ASHP?

This is very subjective.  Typically an Air Source Heat pump will produce 54 dba (decibels acoustic) during normal operation.  This sound level is similar to a domestic fridge freezer.  If noise is a primary concern this should discussed a survey stage with your MCS approved installer.

Tune in next week for the next in the season of blogs.
