How to Keep Your Home Warm This Winter – Top Tips!

According to The Energy Saving Trust four out of ten of us are avoiding switching on the heating during colder spells due to fears about energy bills.
A third of people are reporting they can’t make their home as warm as they would like, whilst winter woollies are filling the comfort gaps where heating system aren’t delivering the goods.
So, here are our top tips to keeping your home warm in the winter:-
1. Draught Proof Your Home
Yes, it is common sense to get the blankets and thick jumpers out if we are feeling cold, but our homes should keep us warm without it costing a fortune. According to The Energy Saving Trust draught proofing your windows and doors can make your home a more comfortable place to live and could save £20 a year on heating bills. The cost of draught proofing your home could cost around £100 for a good DIY draught proofing kit from any reputable DIY store.
2. Insulate your pipes
This is a quick and easy job to do yourself and something we see all the time as installers. Many many homes have no lagging on the outside or inside pipes, not only is this increasingly the case of pipework freezing causing a flood and a potentially costly repair bill, this will also be costing you an extra few pounds a year in your energy bills
3. Upgrade your heating controls
The cost of this varies significantly depending on the type of heating system you have.
4. Change your mindset
It is far cheaper and more effective to maintain the heating in your home at a constant rather than switching the thermostat on and off. It’s harder on your heating system and costs more in energy bills to heat something from freezing cold each day than t0 heat something at a constant ambient temperature
